Runaround to Dreamboats and Petticoats at The Grove

IT’S a smash-hit feel good musical that has everyone singing along and itching to get up on their feet. Dreamboats is popcorn nostalgia that comes with a guarentee of a good time and it moved into The Grove last night for a week-long run.

The show has become so phenomenally successful that it is trapped on its own merry-go-round of touring as well as being responsible for shifting millions of soundtrack CDs.

It’s unusual in that the musical was spawned by the soundtrack. The dazzling success of the first four albums in the Dreamboats and Petticoats series sent the message loud and clear. With more than two million copies sold and several weeks at the Number One spot in the compilation charts, the public made it clear that they didn’t just want to listen to pure the music they’d love to see it as well. Thus Dreamboats was born as a musical and so was an evening of pure hedonistic affection for a more innocent era when love was young and so was rock ‘n’ roll.

In 1961 emotions run high as young musicians Norman and Bobby compete to win a national song writing competition – and, more importantly, the attention of the gorgeous Sue! But when Bobby discovers that shy Laura is no slouch on the piano, love and rock ‘n’ roll fame beckons...
