REVIEW: The Dung Beatles at the Waterside

A band at the Waterside Theatre took Beatles fans on the fastest and most hectic time trip imaginable as they ripped through the history of the world’s greatest pop group.

Tribute band the Dung Beatles took the Aylesbury venue’s Second Space by storm to dash off around 45 songs in a two and a half hour gig that gave new meaning to value for money.

Taking a leaf out of their heroes’ book, the Dung Beatles worked their socks off in an almost non-stop succession of numbers that covered the original band’s dizzying collection of hits from 1963-70.

They deserve the highest praise for not only offering a faithful rendition of the Beatles’ hits (many of which are incredibly hard to play and sing live) but a tantalising insight of what it would have been like to actually hear the music live.

Standout action featured a triumphant medley from Abbey Road and a stunning rendition of A Day In The Life, while a horn trio added colour and authenticity.

There’ll only be one original Fab Four but there’s only really one creditable tribute band and that’s the Dung Beatles.

Catch them next at Westcott Sports and Social Club on November 28.
