Alan Dee’s guide to the best of the week’s TV

Keith Lemon’s LemonAid (ITV1, 6.15pm)

If you’re a famous person looking for a laugh, isn’t easily offended and doesn’t mind occasionally being the butt of the joke, then Keith Lemon can definitely help by recruiting you for his ITV2 panel show, Celebrity Juice.

But does the moustachioed comedy character have what it takes to make dreams come true? We’re about to find out as he bring us this new series.

On paper, Leigh Francis’s comedy alter ego’s new project sounds like a cross between Jim’ll Fix It and That’s Life.

And as it’s showing at teatime, presumably he’ll be considerably less rude than he is on Celebrity Juice. The new TV Burp or something that just leaves you feeling a bit queasy?

Sunday

The One & Only Des O’Connor (ITV1, 7.30pm)

After a half a century in showbusiness, this tribute to Des looks back at some of the most memorable moments of the evergreen entertainer’s varied career.

Comedians Matt Lucas, Rhod Gilbert and Paul O’Grady will all be worshipping at the O’Connor altar, along with actor Robert Lindsay and singer Olly Murs.

Des says: “I am really looking forward to sharing a fun-filled 90 minutes with the viewers.”

Monday

Robson’s Extreme Fishing Challenge (Channel 5, 9pm)

Robson Green returns for a new series, this time with a twist.

Having spent five years travelling the world and taking part in some extraordinary angling challenges, the Wire in the Blood/Waterloo Road veteran decided he had the right stuff to represent Britain in a series of competitions.

First he travels to Brazil, and later in the series he faces the anglers of the USA, Canada, Mexico and Peru.

Tuesday

The Mighty Mississippi with Trevor McDonald (ITV1, 9pm)

After the success of the Secret Caribbean, Sir Trevor returns for another captivating three-part documentary.

The Mighty Mississippi river is the focus this time with Sir Trevor looking at the rich history and changing lives of those who live along the largest river system in North America.

Wednesday

Waterloo Road (BBC One, 8pm)

Emmerdale veteran Roxanne Pallett is on hand to spice up the latest round of playground antics. She makes her debut as alcoholic pupil Shelby, who finds an exam difficult, possibly because she spilled her secret stash of vodka.

Things go from bad to worse when she takes Madi to the pub and the local education officer, who just happens to be her father, visits the school. Needless to say, the sight of his daughter drunk in school doesn’t sit too well with him.

Thursday

Derek (Channel 4, 10pm)

Ricky Gervais’ new comedy drama pilot is all about Derek Noakes, who’s described as a 49-year-old innocent who loves animals, Rolf Harris, autograph-hunting and his job in an old people’s home.

Gervais says: “It’s about kindness being more important than anything else.”

Friday

Piers Morgan’s Life Stories: William Roache (ITV1, 9pm)

Forget Simon Cowell, Ant and Dec or the seemingly inescapable Phillip Schofield – according to Piers Morgan, William Roache is the biggest star on TV.

And he’s got a point. Thanks to his record-breaking role as Ken Barlow in Coronation Street, Roache has racked up more hours of primetime TV than any of the young pretenders. Look out for revelations about his love life, in particular the claim he’s slept with 1,000 women – including his fellow soap icon Pat ‘Elsie Tanner’ Phoenix.
