ST EDMUND'S CHURCH. On Remembrance Sunday a special mass was held with readings and prayers commemorating the fallen in wars and conflicts.
Father Eric had particular reason to recall his service in the Royal Air Force for four years when he saw service in the canal zone and in Cyprus. After his ordination in the Church of England and before reception into the Roman Catholic Church, he s
erved as a chaplain in the Royal Navy for four years.

The parish supper in Ashendon Village Hall on Saturday November 10,expertly arranged by Kevin and Mary Nash, will be fully reported in next week's column.

Aylesbury Vale Association of Local Councils. At the AGM on November 7, Joyce Evans was re-elected to the executive committee.

THAMES VALLEY POLICE.are appealing for more like-minded people to join them as Community Support Officers in Bucks, Berks and Oxon. Westcott has its own CSO in the person of Ian Ledger and he can provide information on the duties. Anyone interested (male or female) can apply for an information pack by telephoning 0845 600 0925.

LOCAL CHARITIES. Westcott Parish Council has representatives on three Waddesdon charities and one is a s follows: Faith Beaumont Charity - for the provision of education, including religious education, in accordance with the doctrines of the Church of England. Applicants must reside in Waddesdon, Westcott, Woodham or Grendon Underwood and can be individuals without age limits or organisations. Applications for grants (with SAE) to be addressed to RF Copcutt, Clerk to the Trustees, 27 Little Britain, Waddesdon, Aylesbury, Bucks HP18 OXA. They will be treated in strict confidence. Details of the other two charities will appear in next week's column.

CATS PROTECTION CHRISTMAS APPEAL. Diane, of Waddesdon Hairdressers, is making her usual appeal for cat food and biscuits (and any other pussy items in good condition). She also has cat calendars for 2008 at £4.95 each. If you have any items to donate, Diane is at the salon up to 3pm most days, but please call her on 07811 490894 to ensure she is available. Westcott is one of the villages covered by the Chiltern Branch of Cats Protection and residents have been generous in the past.
Waddesdon Police Station is now open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm and on Thursdays from 4pm to 7pm.

SINCERE CONDOLENCES to the family of Gordon Dale who died recently. Gordon took a lively interest in the village and always reported any matters which he considered needed attention by the parish council. He was a supported of the Conservative Party and interested in politics in general on which he expressed his views forthrightly. Gordon will be much missed as a long term resident of Linnet Drive and member of the residents' committee.

ST MARY'S CHURCH. There will be Holy Communion from the Book of Common Prayer at 9.30am on Sunday December 20.
