It's a common gripe amongst motorists caught for speeding, whether by a camera or police officers themselves, that they were caught covertly and that resources should be redirected to where they are really needed.
Yet on Sunday, dozens of motorists were stopped in less than two hours on the new Stoke Hammond bypass in an operation to send out a firm message that high speeds will not be tolerated.
This is clearly a message that needs to be reinforced.
Six motorists will rightly face a day in court and possible driving bans for excessively high speeds, one person foolishly hitting 129 miles per hour, 22 motorists were fined and had their licences endorsed.
There can surely be no excuse for anyone driving irresponsibly and potentially endangering the lives of themselves and other road users.
Speed kills - it's as simple as that. Limits are designed to prevent crashes and injury and incidents that all too often frequent the pages of this and every other newspaper in the country.
If people drive over the limit consistently, they should be prepared to face the consequences.
Everyone who drives a car will have gone over the limit at some point and will do again.
Please have some consideration for your fellow road users.

With all the new housing, there surely is no choice.
