HAVING left Buckinghamshire Hospitals Trust, particularly Stoke Mandeville Hospital, following such a stormy episode, it seems incredible that Ruth Harrison could again be employed by the NHS to lead a review into services.
She has never publicly apologised or accepted responsibility for the deaths and illnesses that occurred during her tenure at the trust, unlike the chairman at the time who apologised unreservedly.
In the private sector, anyone who is criticised as strongly as the management of the trust were at the time, would have a black mark on their CV and may struggle to gain employment in the same company, perhaps even the same industry, so soon after such serious incidents.
What is it that makes the NHS so different, particularly when you consider that they are dealing in people's lives?
For the NHS to have considered employing Ms Harrison again and as a
consultant in women and children's services, which many people still feel upset and passionate about, seems insensitive on behalf of both
Ms Harrison and those who saw fit to give her the job.
Her integrity is undermined by the fact that she has failed to apologise
publicly and in taking the six figure pay-off whilst families throughout Bucks continue to mourn the loss of their loved ones.
How ironic she stepped down just a few days into her new post.
At least she has seen sense.
Maybe she will even apologise.
