RACE driver Mark Webber has been installed as the fifth favourite to win next season’s F1 Drivers’ Championship title.

With two months to go until the new season gets underway in Australia, bookies have backed Webber’s teammate Seb Vettel to retain his crown at 11/10 while the Aston Clinton man looks a worthwhile bet at 12/1.

Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso is second favourite at 4/1 ahead of Lewis Hamilton (5/1) and Jenson Button (7/1).

Speaking ahead of the new season, and that home starter for the Aussie, Webber said: “Not every driver gets to have a home race, so I’m very lucky to have Melbourne. The city generally stops for the event, so it’s well attended and there’s always a good atmosphere.

“There’s a great sense of anticipation this year following news that the city has inherited the season-opener from Bahrain.”
