Mark Webber’s team mate topped the time sheets during both of Friday’s practice sessions, ahead of Sunday’s Singapore grand prix.

In the morning session Sebastian Vettel was quickest with a lap of 1 minute 50.566 after 24 laps of the Marina Bay Circuit – Webber was sixth with a lap of 1 minute 51.655 after 19 laps.

In the afternoon Vettel produced a 1 minute 48.340 after 27 laps, Webber finished fourth with a best time of 1 minute 48.964 after 26 laps.

Vettel was three tenths of a second ahead of Jenson Button. Fernando Alonso was third, half a second slower than Vettel.

Lewis Hamilton finished fifth quickest, followed by Paul Di Resta, Nico Hulkenberg, Nico Rosberg and Felipe Massa. Romain Grosjean completed the top ten.

Afterwards Aston Clinton-based Red Bull driver Webber said: “The second session was useful today. I had a good feeling with the car and we seem to be more competitive here.

“We need to keep chipping away, also because the track will change a bit by tomorrow, so we need to be ready for that. But a solid start.

“I think we can be strong on Sunday, we need to execute a clean Saturday first, but so far so good.”

After securing the quickest times in both sessions, Vettel said: ““This is a tough circuit for drivers and cars.

“Overall we can be happy with today, but let’s see what we do tomorrow, it’s still Friday and today’s results are not so conclusive as some

drivers got stuck in traffic.

“Most important is that the car seemed to work on either tyre, so we go from there.

“The kerbs have been changed this year, which is an improvement.”
