UPDATED SATURDAY 9AM: Weekend sport at threat as winter weather tightens its icy grip

Frozen pitch

Frozen pitch

THE wintry weather has already claimed several fixtures and looks set to put the big freeze on any sporting action across Aylesbury Vale and beyond this weekend.

Aylesbury FC’s home match against Barton ‘looks highly unlikely’ to go ahead according to the Twitter feed on the Barton FC official website.

Meanwhile Aylesbury United have arranged a pitch inspection for 10.30am ahead of their match against Hadley, with the club’s website yesterday stating: “Already it is looking very unlikely that the game will go ahead.”

Aylesbury Hockey Club are yet to confirm whether its matches are off, but the ladies fixture secretary says a pitch inspection was due imminently and doubts any action will take place at either Halton or Meadowcroft.

Aylesbury Rugby Club’s home match versus Milton Keynes was called off on Friday afternoon.

The Aylesbury and District League has confirmed that all matches on council pitches have been called off while the Sunday Combination will almost certainly suffer the same consequences with snow expected to fall on Saturday evening.

In Thame, Chinnor’s match away at local rivals Oxford Quins has been postponed while Thame United’s trip to Slimbridge, along with all other Hellenic League matches, have also been cancelled.

Thame Hockey Club will also not be in action after Lord Williams’s School decided to close the astroturf pitches where the club plays its home games due to the weather.

CONFIRMED GAMES OFF:

– AYLESBURY RUGBY CLUB vs MK

– THAME HOCKEY CLUB (All fixtures)

– AYLESBURY & DISTRICT LEAGUE (Council pitches)

– Slimbridge FC vs THAME UNITED

– Oxford Quins vs CHINNOR RFC THAME

LOOKING HIGHLY UNLIKELY:
