Aylesbury RFC are targeting a swift return to winning ways when they host Marlow in the Southern Counties North this weekend.
The Ducks’ six-match winning streak came to an end last weekend as league leaders High Wycombe recorded a 22-14 victory, which also ended Aylesbury’s 17-match unbeaten home run which dated back to September 2013.
As a result, Aylesbury have dropped a place to third in the table, three points behind Royal Wootton Bassett, who currently occupy the promotion play-off spot.
Marlow are the visitors to Ostler’s Field this weekend, with head coach Dave Larham expecting a positive response from his players following last week’s defeat.
He said: “The performance [against High Wycombe] and result means we are in the precarious position of needing to win our remaining five games to secure second position and the promotion play-off final.
“Based on the first half performance, this task may look beyond us, but I know these players well, and deep down I expect them to react in a positive manner by putting a poor performance behind them to achieve our goal of finishing as high up the table as possible.
“We may need to freshen up the team this week to face Marlow and take a look at some of the 2nd XV players that perform well week in, week out.”
Marlow have experienced an up-and-down season and currently sit sixth in the Southern Counties North. The match kicks-off at 2.30pm at Ostler’s Field.
