Vale pair Taylor-made for Buckingham 10k

Rob and Patrick Taylor

Rob and Patrick Taylor

Vale of Aylesbury runner Rob Taylor ran a course record to retain his Buckingham 10k crown at the weekend despite being ill.

Taylor led from the start and ran most of the race on his own on the tricky course which starts in Buckingham town centre, goes out along Stowe Avenue and into Stowe Gardens before looping back to the town.

It is not only undulating, but also tricky underfoot in places. Rob beat off competition from a record 192 other runners to win by almost a minute, finishing in 36mins 1sec – a new course record.

Meanwhile, in his last year as a junior, Patrick Taylor also retained his own title with ease finishing in second place overall in 36mins 55secs.

The teenager said he was ‘a little disappointed’ with his time which he put down to a head cold which had made breathing difficult.

Next season will be interesting as Patrick steps up to compete against Rob.
