Pensioner bowman Ray proves he’s a right Robin Hood

AN elderly bowman astounded spectators when, just months after taking up archery, he achieved one of the rarest feats in the sport.

Raymond Brown, of Little Kimble, wowed members of the Aylesbury Archers at a recent meeting when he hit what is known as a ‘Robin Hood’.

A Robin Hood, named after the legendary bowman, is where an archer hits a previously fired arrow and splits it down the middle.

The 73-year-old pensioner said: “It is a once in a lifetime achievement. It’s much rarer than a hole-in-one in golf.

“Everyone was really excited and took photos and everything. Most of them had never seen it happen.

“They were over the moon that it had happened on a club night.

“I’ve only been doing it for about eight months. I used to make model aeroplanes but when you get to my age you want to be inside.

“I like to keep myself busy and I like archery because anyone can do it.

“Obviously this year is important for the sport because of the Olympics.”

Raymond was firing a compound bow from 20 yards at Stoke Mandeville Stadium when he hit the prestigious 10,000/1 shot.

“I’ve kept the arrow (pictured, right) because it was a very important moment.”
