Lynx girls dominate in Jersey to rack up superb medal tally

The competition sees gymnasts from all across the United Kingdom invited to compete, and having entered 16 of their UKG gymnasts, Lynx dominated the podium in all levels, coming away with an astonishing 39 medals.

Coach Aimee Baines, who took the gymnasts along with their parents and coached them throughout the competition day, said: “It was a fantastic weekend for our club,

“I knew the girls were all ready to compete and we were hoping for some good results, but to win 39 medals, I was totally blown away!”

The Lynx gymnasts competed from level 10 through to level 5. Eight-year-old Freya Dodd from Thame was one of the stars of the day as she won silver on floor, gold on vault and bronze on beam, while 10-year-old Jessica Lyn dominated with four golds.

Lyn competed extremely well and wowed the officials with an overall score of 44.35, a whole three points above the rest of the competition.

For level 9, Chloe Harris was sixth (floor and bars) and seventh (vault and beam).

In the nine-year-old category, Meggy Parsons took seventh on floor, third for vault, second on bars and third on beam while Jasmine Tyda-Wright was ninth on floor and vault and fifth on beam.

Sky Hazel won a gold medal for vault with a score of 10.90, before finishing eighth on floor, and fourth on beam.

Next up was the 11-year-old age group where Bonita Bird blew the competition away to take a clean sweep of gold medals, winning on all four pieces of apparatus. Jasmine Strange came a close second on floor and third on beam.

The second round of the day saw the level eight gymnasts compete, and Thame’s eight-year-old Isabella Bradford shone for Lynx when executing her floor and bar routines beautifully, taking gold medals for each. She was also awarded a bronze on beam and fourth on vault.

Tia Johns (14) competed for the first time at this level in her age group and came away with three silvers along with a shiny gold for her bar routine.

Amelie Avery-Hughes and Evie Gibson competed in the last round of the day at level 7, with the former clinching two golds (vault and beam), a silver (floor) and a bronze (bars).

Despite an unfortunate fall, Gibson finished fourth on bars and then won medals on beam and floor. The pair will move to level 6 in October.

At level 6, Elizabeth Routledge (11) competed with Isabel Avery-Hughes (13), and they took over the podium for vault with silver (Avery-Hughes) and bronze (Routledge).

Routledge also took bronze on the bars, while Lynx’s level 5 gymnast Chloe Foster dominated the podium when winning gold medals for both vault and bars and then taking bronze for floor and beam.

Team-mate Lucy Hodges, who attends the Grange School in Aylesbury, managed third on vault and bars and fifth on floor and beam.

Coach Aimee added: “We were so pleased to have been invited back for a fourth year running to this competition, the gymnasts love it, and so do the coaches and parents.

“The gymnasts have all worked hard in the gym and this showed in their routines, despite a few wobbles and falls they showed they have what it takes to compete and keep a strong head when a routine or move has not gone to plan.

“I am so proud of all the Lynx UKG gymnasts, I have seen them grow and achieve, and most importantly have fun. They all support one another and it’s great to see the parents cheer everyone on.”

Lynx will compete in the Spring National Championships over the next few weeks.
