Alpine Skiing: Aston Clinton skier Ben Reid has hailed the moment he opened a recent international tournament as the high point of his career so far.

Last week 19 year old Ben was given a special invitation to open the men’s FIS night race in Westendorf, Austria, in front of a crowd of several thousand supporters.

Many of the world’s top skiers were competing in preparation for this weekend’s biggest race of the season in Kitzbuhel, Austria.

Ben said: “It really does not get any better than this. What a huge honour to be given this opportunity.

“Not only being a British ski racer, but still only 19 years of age. To race with the best in the world is an amazing experience I will never forget.”

The start of the season has proved tough due to a lack of snow and many of Ben’s races have been cancelled.

However, the good news is that over the past 14 days there has been a decent snowfall throughout the Alps, allowing Ben to get his race season firmly back on track. This keeps him on target for this season’s goal of reducing his FIS points to below 100 in Giant Slalom and Slalom.

Ben’s next race will be held on the January 26 and 27 at Filzmoos, Austria.

The young skiier has come to a milestone within his initial seven year ski racing plan.

This season is the three year anniversary of Ben living in Austria full time.

He has also recently moved from living at the Hotel Kramerwirt into his own apartment giving him more independence and closer access to SportMed and his training slopes.

During the past three years Ben has received a huge amount of support, without which Ben would not have achieved his current success.

Ben would like to say a special thank you Marika and Hansjorg and all the team at the Kramerwirt Hotel www.kramerwirt.at

Ben now looks forward to the next few years, with an eye and ambition for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia.

Ben’s FIS points currently stand at: Giant Slalom: 152.70 and Slalom 152.34.
