Numerous drivers from the Aylesbury area are set to compete at the annual Bentley Drivers’ Club race meeting at Silverstone on Saturday. writes James Beckett.
The Bentley Drivers’ Club has the longest tradition of any club organising race events at the Home of British Motor Racing, and this weekend’s race meeting has attracted a huge entry of Bentley cars, as well as sports and saloons for all comers and scratch races.
Fresh from hosting the annual Silverstone Classic event on the Grand Prix Circuit last weekend, action at this race meeting will take place around the Silverstone 1.6-mile National Circuit. Cars will be on-track from 9am.
Elsewhere, Aston Clinton’s Mark Webber has been in action at the Nurburgring in Germany this week, driving a Porsche 919-Hybrid in a group test for FIA World Endurance Championship competitors.
The test concludes on Wednesday, and Webber has been present at the test alongside his team-mates from the Porsche factory squad. The German manufacturer finished one-two at Le Mans in June, and are looking to win the next round of the WEC that take place at the Nurburgring at the end of August.
Webber said this week: “It is good to be back in the car. The front part of the season is all about looking towards Le Mans, and after the race we all begin to focus on the second half of the campaign.
“This test at the Nurburgring will give us valuable data ahead of the race and allow us to get the car up to speed.”
Leading LMP1 manufacturers, Audi and Toyota, have joined Porsche at the test, while numerous LMP2 and GT teams have been in action too.
