Aylesbury Hockey Club’s ladies first team completed their Trysports Premier One season in disappointing fashion when they slipped to a 3-1 home defeat to Wycombe.
The visitors started quickly and pressurised the hosts but Aylesbury, led by Hannah Pigott and Jess Boult, worked hard to stave off the early danger.
As the game progressed, Wycombe began to dominate possession as they attacked Aylesbury’s defence in numbers with goalkeeper Jade Hedger pulling off a display of acrobatic saves, but eventually the away side’s persistence paid off when they made it 1-0 on the stroke of half-time.
Aylesbury came out on top in the opening stages of the second period as joint player of the match Alice Rolfe skilfully tore through Wycombe’s defence but the hosts were unable to profit and instead it was Wycombe who netted next.
They then grabbed a quick third to end any hope of an Aylesbury comeback, although captain Natasha James did bag a late consolation when she deflected in Beth Upton’s strike.
Aylesbury remain fifth in the league but there are other teams who still have games to play.
