Aston Clinton were knocked out of the South Midlands Challenge Trophy after a thrilling 4-3 defeat to Premier Division side Holmer Green.
Despite dominating much of the first half, Aston’s failure to capitalise on several good chances was punished by Holmer who struck twice to take a 2-0 lead into half-time.
The visitors then threatened to run riot when they added a third in the second half, but Aston produced a valiant fightback as two quickfire goals from Adam Beckett and Lamar Mason Williams made it 3-2.
Holmer quickly netted a fourth but again Aston hit back as Aaron Bonham’s goal set up a nervy finish, however the visitors held out for victory.
Joint manager Jordan King had this to say after the game: “We set up to attack today and that’s exactly what we did as we played our part in an entertaining game and it shows how far this young side has come to be walking off disappointed to have lost to a South Midlands Premier Division side.
“We have to dust ourselves down and go again at training this week and then we travel to title favourites Hale Leys on Saturday which is sure to be an entertaining game with two good footballing sides.”
