Transfer twist as Williams returns
Greg Williams
THE long-running transfer saga of Greg Williams has taken another twist this week, with the midfielder returning back to Aylebury FC.
The former captain had left the club earlier in the season in favour of their bitter rivals Aylesbury United but he never turned out for the Ducks.
And just two weeks ago United manager Tony Joyce confirmed Williams had left the Ducks to fulfil work commitments.
However, it now appears that he is ready to get back into action again.
The midfielder was on the touchline for FC’s defeat at the weekend and is now training with the club.
Manager Mark Eaton said: “I think there is definitely every chance he will be back in the team, he just needs to get himself back to match fitness.”
Williams will go some way towards filling the hole which was left by the departure of Dean Brennan, who was released from the club this week.
The former player-coach will now be spending his Saturday afternoons searching for young Irish players.
He said: “I have a scouting business and I just wasn’t able to get to enough games for me so that was the main reason why I left.”
The decision for Brennan to leave was a mutual one and Eaton praised his departing midfielder.
He said: “I got on every so well with Dean, he was a great coach and I would just like to thank him for what he has done.”
Brennan was not the only person to leave FC this week, with former Premier League star David Perpetuini being shown the exit door.
Eaton said: “We are really just looking at financially where we want to go and where we need to strengthen.
“It was decided we had Danny Mead as cover and a lot of left sided players so I wanted to be in a position to strengthen in other areas.”
The money saved can now go towards attracting other players, with Eaton confirming defender John Derby and former Charlton star Dorian Smith are training with the club with a view to signing.
