Risborough Rangers were one of few local teams who overcame the weather at the weekend as they hosted Edgware Town in a South Midlands League Division One clash on Saturday.

In a game of two halves, Edgware began on top and should have been two goals ahead inside 10 minutes before their dominance was rewarded on 12 minutes when they took a deserved lead.

The visitors continue to exert pressure on Rangers, who were fortunate to be only one goal behind at the break.

The second half was a totally different story, however, as Risborough were the dominant team and having penned the visitors back, they pulled level when Gary Ryman slotted home his first goal of the season in the 55th minute after good build-up play.

With the hosts remaining in the ascendency, Laurence Clark then doubled their goal tally 20 minutes from full-time as he drifted beyond two defenders and rifled a stunning strike into the back of the net.

With only 10 minutes left on the clock, goalscorer Clark was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence after a clumsy challenge.

This changed the pattern of play and as the game neared full-time, with Risborough looking to hold on, Edgware took advantage of the extra man and a defensive mix up from the hosts resulted in the visitors equalising in the 88th minute to take a point back to Middlesex.

It was hard on Risborough, who had produced some excellent football in the second half, but a draw was a fair result on the balance of play.

Rangers remain in the hunt for promotion with this result moving them up a place to fourth.

It was disappointment last week for the club when a depleted Risborough side were knocked out of the South Midlands Challenge Trophy after a 3-0 loss to Codicote in the quarter-finals.

Rangers travelled the short distance to Chalfont St Peter AFC last night, Tuesday, for another quarter-final tie, this time in the Wycombe Senior Floodlit Club.

This weekend, Risborough make the journey to play Arlesey Town Reserves for a South Midlands League Division One encounter – kick-off is 3pm on Saturday – and next Wednesday, the club are on their travels again when they visit Bush Hill Rangers in another league clash.
