Olympic call for Rob Hall?

TEEN football sensation Rob Hall could be set to play for Team GB at the Olympics this summer after being named on the initial list of invited players this week.

The fleet-footed striker, fresh from making another impressive cameo appearance as West Ham beat Nottingham Forest to go top of the Championship on Saturday, is one of GB 180 players who could potentially get the nod for the Games.

Olympic football is for players under 23 with the exception of three senior stars for each nation.

So the former Grange School pupil has a realistic chance of making the final cut should he continue his meteoric rise in the game as he bids to help the Hammers in their quest for promotion back to the Premier League.

Team GB bosses wrote to Hall, and three of his West Ham teammates asking if they would like to be considered for the squad, with all four expressing an interest in taking part.

Hall, pictured in the Team GB kit in our mock-up outside the stadium, is one on the long list of players which will eventually be whittled down to a final squad of 18 by July 9.

The Team GB football squad has courted a fair amount of controversy since it was confirmed last year.

But West Ham Manager Sam Allardyce has given his blessing for all his players to take part.

Rob Hall was unavailable for comment this week but Mark Noble, speaking on behalf of the players asked to take part from West Ham, said: “Obviously I would be very proud to represent Great Britain in the Olympics as I am sure the others lads will be as well.

“It is a great honour.

“All we know at the moment is that we could be selected but there is a process to go through first ... but to be in the hat possibly is a great thing.”
