Aylesbury FC’s pre-season programme continued on Saturday when they notched a comfortable 5-1 win over neighbours Thame United.
Once Lynton Goss had put the team ahead, the result never looked in doubt with the crowd were treated to goals of real quality with Goss going on to net a hat-trick.
The Moles’ starting line-up featured new signing Lamar Simpson as well as irish midfielder Johnnie Montgomery, who has just joined the club having played for Premier Division side Burnham last season.
The opening goal came from a cross on the right and Goss, unmarked, headed past a hesitant Thame keeper after just five minutes.
Montgomery then came close to netting his first goal for the club but he was denied by a low save before Thame levelled on 15 minutes.
FC regained the lead eight minutes later when a series of intricate passes led to Goss stroking the ball home for his second goal of the game, and 2-1 became 3-1 shortly afterwards as the game man completed a first half hat-trick. His clever run broke the offside trap and the young midfielder pounced to poke the ball underneath the advancing Thame goalkeeper.
After the break, Gareth Price was introduced to the game and he looked sharp, forcing the Thame keeper into a smart save on 58 minutes and a couple of minutes later, a turn and shot found its target but lacked power.
Thame responded to this with a cross shot that James Weatherill tipped over the bar before FC put the game beyond doubt.
As defender and goalkeeper dithered,Price was decisive crashing a loose ball from five yards and on the stroke of full-time, Price scored the pick of the goals. A ball over the top was brought down expertly and in one fluid movement the striker swept the ball into the bottom corner from an acute angle for a final score of 5-1.
The Moles continue their pre-season with a trip to Tring Athletic on Tuesday.
