Life lessons from pro shot stopper Richard Lee
Keeper Richard Lee has released his book Graduation
AYLESBURY footballer Richard Lee has written a book about his life as a professional.
Richard, who plays in goal for League One side Brentford, went to Aylesbury Grammar School and came through the ranks at Watford.
The book, called Graduation: Life Lessons of a Professional Footballer, talks about the shot stopper’s journey since he was signed for Watford as a 10 year old and in particular one career defining season as he re-emerged as a number one keeper.
He said: “It almost happened by accident if I’m honest. Every year I write a review of the season that I post on my website (www.RichardLeeGK.com). I started to write the story of the season and within two days I had written 10,000 words.
“It occurred to me the season was unique in many ways, leaving Watford – the team I was with since I was 10 years old – getting dropped after one game, winning four penalty shootouts, experiencing hypnotherapy, a Wembley final and a career threatening injury tell part of the tale.”

The book was written on Richard’s mobile phone.
“I started in April 2011 while sat on my balcony during the mini heat wave we had, then did the majority of the content on holiday in the summer,” he revealed.
An interesting exert reveals how nervous he was when Brentford drew Manchester United in the FA Cup.
“Everyone was sending me congratulatory messages which was understandable as it was due to be the biggest game of my life but inside I was petrified at the prospect of facing Rooney and company live on BBC.”
The Bucks Herald will be bringing you a series of exerts from Richard’s book, which is available from Amazon.co.uk
