Leaving FA Cup with Micky is a Hazard

A TRIO of football legends came to town on Friday night to celebrate Aylesbury FC’s charity dinner but there was one notable absentee.

The famous FA Cup, which had been promised at the evening, was left behind by former Tottenham Hotspur player Micky Hazard.

FC’s Dean Brennan said: “Micky left it at his house, he and his wife were in a hurry and just drove off without it.”

But the gaff was not forgotten throughout the night as Hazard was the centre of a number of jokes aimed at him, not least by host Kerry Dixon.

Brennan said: “The whole thing went down ok because they made a joke of it and so nobody was really bothered.”

Luckily for Hazard, the trio of himself, Dixon and World Cup winner Ossie Ardiles impressed the guests, who all had a good time.

All three of them shared their experiences of professional football and Brennan said: “It was a good night, there was about 90 people there and the lads all enjoyed it.

“Everyone mingled and everyone was able to have their photos taken and things like that.

“The players signed the photos and it was just really good.”

The 90 tickets sold meant that FC were able to meet the costs of the night and so the auction presented an opportunity to raise some money for the Florence Nightingale Hospice.

There was gifts such as a signed Premier League ball, which was used in a game between Chelsea and Spurs, in the auction, as was two season tickets for Aylesbury FC. But the gift which went for the most money was a Nuffield Gym membership which ended up going for around £600.

Also in the auction was a pair of signed Kevin Foley shorts, which was bought by Brennan and will now be donated to an Irish charity.

All three of the former professionals were more than willing to help out on the night for the cause of local football.

Brennan said: “They had a great evening and are always wanting to help out with local football.”

Following the success of the star-studded event, the club has now revealed there may well be plans for similar evenings to be arranged in the future.
