There was a familiar Aylesbury name on the scoresheet - that of Hercules, for the first time since 2001 - as the Ducks wrapped up their Southern League survival with two games to spare.

Not all-time leading goalscorer Cliff, but nephew Ellis, whose goal kick-started a struggling United into a comeback to win 2-1 at Leighton Town.

After a promising start, the game had been a tough one for the Ducks, and former landlords Leighton fully deserved their 67th minute lead when it arrived.

Aylesbury were poor and had barely registered a shot in the second period, before Hercules popped up to head in Jake Bewley’s free kick.

Two minutes later and the duo were involved again, Hercules getting on the end of Bewley’s corner, the ball eventually worked back to the left back whose cross was fired home by Stacey Field.

Aylesbury now go into tomorrow’s game against Beaconsfield knowing they will not be relegated.
