Tom Brindley scored four goals as Hale Leys United smashed nine past The 61FC (Luton) on Saturday to maintain their title challenge in SML Division Two.
Hale were quickly into their stride against the lowly strugglers as Brindley opened the scoring early on before new boy Mitchell Collins used his pace and trickery to devastating effect with two quickfire goals.
Captain Daniel Parsons made it 4-0 at half-time and Hale continued to run riot in the second half when Sean Coles scored a fine individual goal.
Brindley then stole the show by taking his tally to four for the afternoon, however the goal of the day went to substitute Kevin Mealor who played a clever one-two with Nathan Graham before unleashing a rasping 30-yard thunderbolt that put the seal on a terrific win.
Despite that, though, United have lost top spot in Division Two after Kent Athletic were victorious in one of their two games in hand, putting them a point clear of Hale at the top.
Hale boss Paul Alleyne said: “We knew what we had to do today and the boys replied. They know the title run-in will be close and it might go down to goal difference so we need to be aware of that.
“Man of the match definitely goes to Mitchell Collins as he was involved all over the pitch and scored a brace so well done to him , and thank you to all who came down to support us.”
