Floody hell! Another FC match bites the dust

Aylesbury FC are facing future fixture headaches after yet another match was postponed due to the heavy rain when the Boxing Day clash against Rugby Town was the latest to be chalked off.

It means Craig Faulconbridge’s men have not played a league game since the 2-1 away win over Thatcham on December 8.

The home games against Chertsey Town and Rugby were postponed due to waterlogged pitches while the away game at Guildford was also off after rain made the surface unplayable.

The club managed to get their Berks and Bucks Senior Cup match against MK Dons on last Wednesday – it had previously been frozen off – but with more rain forecast for Thursday, Friday and Saturday there are also question marks over this weekend’s home match against Burnham at FC’s Affinity Investments Stadium, which is notoriously prone to flooding.

Speaking last week, FC boss Faulconbridge said he was ‘extremely frustrated’ by the situation, particularly given he has often called for more games to be played at the beginning of the season to allow for the inevitable postponements come the winter.

“I’ve had it with the British weather and I want to play and manage in Spain!” said a fed-up Faulconbridge in jest.

“It would be nice to not have to play catch-up but that’s exactly what we’ll be doing now because we’re six or seven games behind already.”
