FC run out of lives in astonishing 9-2 defeat while Ducks grab last gasp win

AFTER victory over league leaders Slough Town last week, Aylesbury FC and their beleaguered boss Steve Smith were brought crashing back down to earth with a 9-2 defeat at St Neots on Saturday.

Full details of the match and exclusive reaction will be in this weeks Bucks Herald Sport. The devastating result comes in the same week FC boss Smith, who was given a vote of confidence by the club’s board following some calls for his head, had hailed his players for turning their season around.

Those sentiments appear to have been premature, though, after his struggling side were dismantled by second-placed St Neots, who it has to be said boast an enormous budget, indeed employing the prolific former Premier League star Stefan Moore up front.

The striker, who with has scored more goals than games played in the last two seasons, is clearly playing at a level belying his ability. A point he proved within 29 first half minutes during which he scored a hat-trick as his team cruised to 4-0 up.

FC grabbed two of their own to give themselves some hope, but St Neots added another five to win 9-2.

Elsewhere, Aylesbury United experienced elation rather than deflation as their man of the moment Joey Acheampong sealed a last gasp 2-1 victory over London Tigers.

Paul Edgeworth gave the Ducks a 65th minute lead only for Tony Joyce’s side to be pegged back with five minutes left.

But up stepped Acheampong at the death, stealing all three points when a draw seemed likely.
