AYLESBURY United face their toughest challenge of the season on Monday as they return to action against league leaders Chalfont St Peter.

The Ducks have been without a match for three weeks and Joyce admitted this was the greatest test they could face on their return.

He said: “It will definitely test us and show us where we stand but I think everyone is looking forward to it and getting back into the action.

“We have had five or six games called off now so it will just be nice to get playing again.”

But despite the frosty conditions thawing out, the match is still a doubt due to the weather.

With the snow melting so fast, Joyce is worried that all the pitches will now become waterlogged.

He said: “I still have my doubts about Monday because now a lot of the pitches will be under water.

“I do not know how their pitch is looking so yet again we will be doing a weather watch before the game.”

If the game does go ahead then Joyce believes his side could have the edge due to their fitness.

He said: “I think that because we haven’t played for so long it will be one of those games where both teams struggle. I think in the end it will depend on which team has maintained their fitness the best.”

Chalfont are four points clear at the top of the table and looked unbeatable after winning their first 17 matches of the season.

But since then the table toppers have lost their last two matches giving Joyce hope that his side can inflict another defeat.

He said: “We will be going there to get a win, they have lost twice so I am sure we can beat them as well.”

The Ducks manager though does not believe that the result will affect where the league title will end up after already labelling Chalfont as the Champions in waiting.

“If we win then it will mean we would have beaten the team who will win the league,” he said. “I can’t see anyone else winning it, although if they lose a few then there is always a chance.”
