Boss says complacency is to blame for FC defeat

Craig Faulconbridge says his side got complacent as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat at Royston Town on Saturday and insists they must get ‘back on the shop floor’.
FC went into the game as underdogs given that Royston sit fourth in the Evo Stik Southern Division One Central.
And true to the table they went behind on 29 minutes. However. Luke Abraham equalised nine minutes later.
FC’s efforts were undone again in the 43rd minute but Sonny French brought the Moles level yet again just two minutes later.
However, the five-goal thriller was settled on the hour when Royston made the most of what Faulconbridge described as a complacent performance.
He said: “It was like we’d all got a bit complacent and we were waiting for them rather than taking the game to Royston like we have been doing recently.
“No player or the team as a whole took the game by the scruff of the neck and I have to say we gifted them the game.
“I wasn’t that impressed by Royston and really, if we had defended as well as we have been – and I include myself in that – we should have beaten them.
“It’s a massive chance missed,” he said.
The Moles boss said his side had done ‘magnificently’ recently but thinks they can and will go to ‘another level’ and must get ‘back on the shop floor’.
“There is another gear there and we have to go on to that level. With the games we have (Chertsey and Woodford at home on Tuesday and Saturday respectively) this week it should be two wins, but I’d be a fool to say they are givens, because a match isn’t done until it’s done.”
The boss also said he feels FC’s improving league position had proved a distraction for players.
“If this is what looking at where we are gets us then I would rather we didn’t look at the table until May,” he added.
