F1: Webber way off the pace Belgian Grand Prix practice

Aston Clinton's Formula One world title hopeful Mark Webber was a fair way off the pace in last practice on Friday afternoon.

Webber was seventh fastest with a lap time of 2mins and 2.926secs behind McLaren's Jenson Button (sixth) Force India's Adrian Sutil (fifth).

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso topped the timesheets at the end of a wet opening practice session ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix.

The Spanish steedster clocked a best lap of two minutes 00.727 seconds in the closing stages of the 90-minute run.

That time was 0.770secs ahead of Lewis Hamilton in his McLaren, though it was the weather that had dominated proceedings at Spa.

The gloomy forecast for a sodden day proving correct as the rain ruined Formula One's return from a summer break. It eventually relented in the closing stages, allowing Alonso to come out and better his previous time.

Times:

1. Fernando Alonso Ferrari 2m00.797s 17 laps

2. Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 2m01.567s + 0.770s 7 laps

3. Robert Kubica Renault 2m02.081s + 1.284s 14 laps

4. Sebastian Vettel Red Bull-Renault 2m02.450s + 1.653s 11 laps

5. Adrian Sutil Force India-Mercedes 2m02.646s + 1.849s 14 laps

6. Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes 2m02.913s + 2.116s 6 laps

7. Mark Webber Red Bull-Renault 2m02.926s + 2.129s 11 laps
