Children at St Mary’s CofE School were treated to a visit from London 2012 Paralympics star Charlie Walker.
The Team GB sitting volleyball player told the children about his experiences around the Olympic Village during the Games.
The former Army officer, who was training to be a bomb disposal expert when he was struck down by meningitis and had to have a leg amputated, also spoke about the sort of physical sacrifices athletes have to make.
Year 4 teacher Mr Burke said: “The children were delighted to meet someone like Charlie today.
“They learned a great deal about the importance of perseverance.”
