Aylesbury footballer signs for Premier League club
A professional footballer from Aylesbury has signed for Premier League club Blackpool.
Matt Phillips, 19, who grew up in Aylesbury and lives in Bedgrove, joins the Seasiders from Wycombe Wanderers.
The initial fee for the winger is 325,000, although this could rise to 700,000 if Blackpool avoid relegation or regain their top level status within four years.
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway said: "Matty has been on our radar for some time, he did well in the European Under-19 tournament for England in the summer and has played almost 80 league games for Wycombe, which at 19 is a real achievement."
Wycombe manager Garry Waddock added: "It is a great opportunity for Matty to play in the Premier League and we could not stand in his way."
Phillips is cousin to Wigan defender Emmerson Boyce, who starred in the shock 1-0 defeat of Tottenham at the weekend.
