Aylesbury's Dragon Ben fired up for Commonwealth Games
Aylesbury will definitely have a representative in the 2010 Commonwealth Games after Ben Gregory secured a place in the Welsh side.
The decathlete has been selected by the Welsh board after twice reaching the qualifying standards and Gregory is setting his sights on a high finish.
He said: "My main aim is to get a personal best and hopefully that will get me into the top 10.
"I want to do myself justice while I am out there and score some good points."
Gregory needed to hit the qualifying score of 7,300 points and achieved that in his first meeting of the year.
The decathlete got 7,319 points in a competition in Woodford before getting 7,283 in the European Cup.
Gregory will travel to Delhi to take part in the games in October and it will be the first time he has represented Wales at a major tournament.
He said: "I am really excited to be involved in the team but I am sure I will get nervous a day or two before the competition.
"I haven't put myself under too much pressure but I want to do as well as possible."
The Aylesbury athlete is hoping the experience he gains in Delhi will help to propel him into the reckoning for a place in Team GBs London 2012 squad.
"I am now training six days a week at Loughborough to try and get ready for 2012 and hopefully I can make the team," he said.
Gregory is also studying at Loughborough University and chose the venue specifically for its sporting facilities.
The Commonwealth Games are taking place between October 3 and October 14.
