Aylesbury Olympian aims for gold in Beijing
AN AYLESBURY-born rower has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Beijing Olympics- and he has set his sights on nothing less than a gold medal.
Andy Triggs Hodge was officially confirmed as a member of the mens' fours team by the British Olympic Association on Thursday (June 26).
The announcement followed a second-place finish for his team at the season's final world cup in Poznan, Poland, a fortnight ago.
But Hodge told The Bucks Herald: "We are looking at getting back on top of the field and driving for a gold medal, that is what our goal is but a lot of teams are stepping up to the plate and there will be a lot of challenges ahead."
The 29-year-old was born at the RAF Halton military hospital where his mother was a nurse, and he spent the first year of his life living in Little Tring before moving to Yorkshire.
His team have certainly got the weight of history on their shoulders, as they follow in the legendary footsteps of Steve Williams, James Cracknell, Ed Coode and Matthew Pinsent, who took gold in the event in Athens in 2004.
