Aylesbury FC: Boss Eaton on his decision to join new club

Mark Eaton admitted his excitement at joining Aylesbury FC is 'tinged with disappointment' that Aylesbury United could not be brought on board.

He said he had 'hugely enjoyed' his three years at The Ducks, first as assistant to Tony Thompson and then as manager, but that he had always believed that United and Vale coming together was the 'logical solution' and that AUFC's committee knew that this was his stance.

"The easiest thing to do would have been to sit and do nothing and just let the club meander on as it was outside of the town for another year, with the reduction in budget that we had," he said.

"In the Southern League you do need to have money and a reduction in budget and another year outside the town for me was a recipe for disaster as far as the club is concerned."

"This is not me leaving Aylesbury United and joining Aylesbury Vale," he went on.

"It is me joining the new club and I would still even be hopeful now that at some point some agreement could be reached where Aylesbury United join the new venture.

"I am an Aylesbury United supporter as well as manager and I have got an emotional pull to its history. It has been a big part of the town for so many years but to me it couldn't go on how it was.

"When Jon Franklin and Roger Dance invited me to be part of this new venture and explained their plans of bringing the clubs together back in the town I was very excited by the potential of what could be achieved.

"I am looking forward to working with the executive committee of Aylesbury FC to bring success both on and off the field for the good of the town."

Eaton said he 'had a very busy time ahead' forming the squad which will do battle in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.

He will be aided by Jon Franklin, a former Ducks boss who will be overseeing player development at all levels, and Trevor Griffiths, Eaton's assistant at United who is coming with him to the new club.

"Although the club is being run as not for profit there will be available funds for players because we want to attract players who can bring success to the club.

"I have got a good idea of the squad I want to put together and I will be working with Jon Franklin and Trevor Griffiths. I would love it if we could pull off some success.

"For me as manager I want to be in a situation where I am picking up trophies."
