TAG rugby is being taken into a community in Aylesbury under a project aimed at bringing people together in Elm Farm and Mandeville.
The Blues and Twos Community Tag Rugby have started to hold taster sessions at Simpson Green play area after the scheme was launched last week.

Anyone from aged seven upwards, children and adults alike, are invited to attend the pilot on a Tuesday or a Wednesday evening, from 6.30-7.30 on both days.

The five-week programme will come to a climax with a festival at Aylesbury Rugby Club on August 30.

Organisers hope to attract more than 50 people per session.
Tag rugby is non-contact, with no scrums or line-outs.

The project is the brainchild of resident Webster Springer, a former Aylesbury Rugby Club 1st XV coach and member of the local Neighbourhood Action Group, from where he got the idea.

The scheme is being supported by AVDC, the police, the emergency services, the Bucks RFU and residents.

Dayla has provided some sponsorship.

A working party, made up of interested parties, has been set up to co-ordinate the event.

Springer said: "If it's successful and I hope we'll have a level of success, then I believe there's an opportunity to extend it to other areas of Aylesbury and I believe the RFU can take it to other areas of the county."

He added: "My rationale is to get the community involved and then rugby becomes the glue that holds together the jigsaw; people can get involved by not only playing rugby, but by supporting rugby (in a non-playing capacity)."

Anyone who would like further details on the project should contact Clare Harrison or Christina Pringle, PCSOs for the area, at theblues&two's@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk.
