ELITE mountain biker Jenny Copnall was "walking on eggshells" prior to the opening round of the British National Championship...
...but was later walking on air after a superb victory at the event - which took place a fortnight ago in Thetford .

Much to her own surprise, the experienced Copnall led from start to finish to see off a tough field - after a heavy cold had disrupted her training prior to the event.

Afterwards, the British number one said: "My last race was back in last September and having experienced a tricky few weeks leading into the event, I was both thrilled and surprised to take the win."

The rider from North Marston cycled with precision over the five-lap course to ward off the attentions of Jenn O'Connor - and again establish herself as the woman to beat in this season's championship.

Copnall added: "Despite having won many national level races over the years, this one was extra-special because I had never expected to be in a position to win it. This is a great early season present."
