Leach: "Referees suck"

AYLESBURY United skipper Nick Leach has slammed the standard of refereeing in the Southern League.
Frustrated captain Leach feels his side were robbed by a controversial offside decision in their 2-0 defeat at Leamington on Saturday - and were again on the receiving end of a clanger from officials in Monday night's 1-0 defeat at home to Dunstable Town.

Talking to the Herald this week, Leach said: "We haven't had a lot of luck with referees and the standard throughout the season hasn't been good. These decisions have come in critical games and have cost us."

United travelled to Leamington buoyed by consecutive victories against Bedworth United and Stourbridge, but were up-in-arms at the Brakes' suspiciously offside first goal from striker Ben Mackey after 73 minutes.

An error from 'keeper Tom Vincent compounded the Ducks misery and led to the hosts tying up the three points with a late second from midfielder Scott Hadland.

With their promotion hopes in tatters, United were playing for pride on Monday night against Dunstable. Despite controlling the game, United struggled to break down their visitors before conceding a late breakaway goal from Matt Baldry.

Baldry's strike on 85 minutes directly followed a disputed penalty shout from the Ducks - after Nathan Graham tumbled in the visitors' area.

Reflecting on the two games, Leach added: "A draw would have been a fair result on Saturday. We were pretty comfortable until they scored their first - which was at least five yards offside. Against Dunstable, we had a cast-iron penalty turned down and were then out of position as they went up the other end and scored with their only attempt of the game."
