Nathan Graham scored a late penalty to lift Aylesbury FC to the top of the table and secure what manager Mark Eaton described as their 'most important three points of the season'.
Two penalties and a rare Matt Hayward goal helped FC fight back from two goals down against promotion rivals Royston Town at Haywood Way.

Eaton said: "It was our most important game so far, they were by far the best side we have played and I am absolutely delighted with the result.

"We had a scare today, and I think we got out jail. We showed a lot of spirit and discipline to come back from two down and I am absolutely over the moon."

Aylesbury started slowly and found themselves behind inside two minutes.
Ryan Lockett broke free from his marker and supplied a neat finish past Steve Smith in the Aylesbury goal.

Royston continued to pressure FC and went two up on the twenty minute mark as Lockett got his second of the game, again beating the offside trap to slot calmly past Smith.

Aylesbury fought back and were unlucky not to score when Ross Lafayette headed down for Craig Henney, but the striker could only direct his acrobatic effort over the bar.

Eaton's side did reduce the deficit minutes later as Hayward volleyed home after Henney was denied by a fine save from Jordan Gibson.

Aylesbury were then awarded a controversial penalty early in the second half, with the Royston players surrounding the referee after he had adjudged Gareth Price had been tripped in the box.

Henney stepped up and calmly slotted what was a retaken penalty into the bottom corner to score his sixth goal in the last three games.

Price then had the opportunity to take the lead, but was thwarted by a fine save by Gibson, following a perfectly weighted through pass from Lafayette.

Royston's misery continued as the referee waved away a strong penalty appeal, following goalkeeper Smith's tackle, which left striker Ricky Young on the floor.

And their misery was completed in the final minutes as Aylesbury were awarded another penalty, this time for a foul on Lafayette, and substitute Graham held his nerve to finish past Smith.

Royston still had enough time to smash the ball against the bar, but as it was, Eaton's men held out for a valuable win against their promotion rivals.

His team are now top of the SML Premier after former leaders Colney Heath- who were soundly beaten by Aylesbury last week- lost again away to Hatfield.
