AYLESBURY MP David Lidington believes the global 'credit crunch' may increase the viability of a new stadium for Aylesbury United.
United have been homeless for over two years after financial difficulties forced them to leave their old Buckingham Road ground.

The club used neighbours Leighton Town's facilities for a short time before striking an agreement with current landlords Chesham United.

Plans for a new stadium within a state-of-the-art sports complex were mooted earlier in the season, but appear to have fallen flat as both Aylesbury Vale District Council and developers survey the impact of the recent 'credit crunch' in the UK.

MP Lidington has supported the campaign from the outset and believes United may actually benefit from the slowing of the economy.

Lidington said: "I will give Aylesbury United every support I can. I've discussed the situation with Graham (Read, United's chairman) and John (Newman) and think the best chance of them getting a new stadium is as part of a commercial development.

"Long-term the credit crunch may lead to property prices falling and may make their (United's) return to the town more probable than at present, not less."
