14 try bonanza for Chinnor seconds
Chinnor seconds playing in the Zoo Shield Division 2 North welcomed Thurrock RFC to Kingsey for the first league game of the 2012/13 season.
This being the first time Thurrock and Chinnor met after Thurrock’s promotion to the division this year. With Chinnor RFC first team being promoted to National 2 South this season, the club have managed to attract a healthy number of new players to our successful and well run club. This showed in the team selected, with 5 new players in an already very strong second team. So we welcome two forwards Evan Sawyer and Jack Horward and three back line Neil and Paul Davies and grease lightning Leo Fielding. Many of this team, will competing for first team places in an already strong outfit. What a great problem for the club to have.
On a very hot afternoon at least 28 degrees the game started with the home side forwards dominating and getting first points on the board with a try by Adam Hastings. The game then settled down with both teams attacking and defending and trying to settle and gel as a team. Thurrock added the next points on shortly afterwards with a penalty. It took twenty minutes for Chinnor to get their second try scored by Trevor Powell and the lead was 10 points to 3. Chinnor then started to string the phases together with forward and backs working well together and in the space of fifteen minutes ran in three tries by Leo Fielding, Neil Davies and Tristan Corpe. Two of which were converted by Will Millett and the lead increased to 31 points to 3. Just on half time Thurrock cut the lead with a converted try of their own and the half finished 31 points to 10 and Chinnor with a try bonus point.
Thurrock was disadvantaged only one on the bench, whilst Chinnor sported four, and so it proved to be a very long second half for Thurrock. Chinnor then ran in another nine tries by Huw Morgan 2, Sam Angell 2, Leo Fielding, Adam Hastings, Evan Sawyer, Tristan Corpe and Trevor Powell each scored seconds tries. Sam Angell had a success with his boot and made 7 conversions. The final score was 90 points to 10.
This was an outstanding performance by the team with some great individual performances as well. The game was watched by the full first team as well as an encouraging crowd who were full of praise for second team and the depth of talent that we have in our squad this year.
At the same time 2 other home fixtures were played.
Chinnor 111s played Windsor 11s establishing a good lead. However Windsor later got going they took over the game beating Chinnor by only 1 point.
Chinnor Oxen (Vets) 27 vs 5 Aylesbury III’s
All 3 games were very entertaining showing the depth of senior rugby at Chinnor being able to put out 5 teams involving over 130 senior players as well as a proper route from Junior to Senior rugby fro the 17 – 21 year olds. If you fancy pulling out your boots and having a run around, all are welcome to the Senior training sessions held every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 19.30.
