FOLLOWING a nostalgia photograph looking back at 1980 The Bucks Herald got in touch with a former model to speak to her about what she has been getting up to since appearing in the newspaper nearly 30 years ago.
Rosemary Bryant has since moved from Aylesbury to Thame and now works for Buckinghamshire County Council’s travel choice team promoting sustainable transport.

She has two daughters, Michelle, 22, who has just completed her degree and Emily, 20, wh
o is a musical theatre actress. Both live in London.

In 1980, Rosemary, nee Henley, was photographed with fellow model, Sandra Ross, by Bedgrove Camera Club which had made a special trip from its usual venue to the Reg Maxwell swimming pool to take photographs of the two young women.

She said: “I’ve stayed local to Aylesbury for most of my life and had a very varied career path during that time from being a massage therapist at Hartwell House to building Aylesbury Park Golf Club, literally digging holes and driving dumper trucks.

“I was also a depot manager for A Plant - Plant Hire and then decided I would like to do something a bit more worthwhile, which is when I joined the council.

“When I was Miss Aylesbury I used to open lots of fetes and dog shows and that kind of thing and as part of the Miss Aylesbury prize I went on to take part in Miss UK in the Peak District.

“I was a model for about seven or eight years after that, which included television commercials, catalogue work, brochures and all kinds of things really.

“Nowadays I practice what I preach whilst promoting sustainable transport at Bucks County Council where I encourage car sharing, cycling and public transport.

“I am also a keen cyclist and have a wonderful commute into work along the Phoenix trail from Thame to Princes Risborough and then catch the little shuttle train service into Aylesbury.

“I don’t know why more people don’t consider this as a suitable healthy option of getting to work.”
