This week we look at the months of January/February 1981 in our weekly look back to the 1980s through our newspaper and photographic records of that era.
Sun shines for Boxing Day race in Aylesbury, January 1 edition:

Six records were smashed on the Boxing Day races in Aylesbury town centre. Glorious sunshine greeted the runners in the traditional race, staged by the Vale of Aylesbury Athletic Club.

Sir Henry Floyd Choir performs the Bethlehem Blues, January 1 edition:

Jazz production, The Bethlehem Blues, was performed by the music society of the Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School in Aylesbury. The choir of around 100 pupils was joined by a local schools jazz band.

The Bucks Herald reported that the vivid lyrics placed Bethlehem squarely in the 20th century with its modern language and distinct parallels between the events in Jewry and the callous atrocities in Northern Ireland.

Church party in Princes Risborough, February 5 edition:

About 50 youngsters under the age of nine, all the children of parishoners at St Mary's Church in Princes Risborough, attended their annual party in the church hall.

As well as games and competition, youngsters were entertained by a magician and a Punch and Judy show. In the evening, a disco was held for the 9-16 year-olds.

Fastest Milkmen in the South, February 26 edition:

Milkmen from Ron Miller Ltd won a handsome trophy for their efforts in selling an average of 31 extra pintas a day each in a six week period.
The competition, to see who could sell the most milk over and above their normal daily sales, was held by the Milk Marketing Board of the Southern Area.

Pupils take part in road safety lessons, February 26 edition:
Pupils at Halton County First School learnt how to be safe near the road in a novel fashion.

Using minature cars, zebra crossings and kerb stones they took part in sketches emphasising the best ways to keep safe.
