FORMER band members of The A-Rabs have been reunited after their drummer appealed to The Bucks Herald to help him.
Ian Beard, who now lives in Derby, sent in a picture of the 1960s four-piece band and since it appeared in the paper last month he has tracked down two of the members. A friend who was not in the band, but went to Quarrendon School with him, also mad
e contact.

Mr Beard has found Tony Butler-Lee, the bass player, who still lives in Tring where they often held concerts and Alan Lawrence, who was the band’s lead guitar player, and who is now a composer living in Australia. He has written music for British and Australian television programmes.

Mr Butler-Lee now plays the drums in a band called the Reflexions. He recalled his memories of The A-Rabs. “I was very surprised. I haven’t seen him since the early 60s. It was a bit out of the blue. I can’t remember that picture being taken.

“Alan, Steve and myself got together at school in Tring and Ian joined a bit later and we played at the youth club in Tring.”

But the search is still on for the band’s rhythm guitar player. Mr Beard said: “We believe the fourth member, Steve Bailey, may now be living in Kidlington in Oxfordshire.”

Mr Butler-Lee added: “Somebody else who saw the article in the paper said they used to work with a Steve Bailey in Kidlington. They think he has set up his own PR company now. I worked with his brother briefly.”

There was also a keyboard player who joined them later on, but he could not remember his name. Mr Beard said: “None of us can come up with a name so we have got no progress with him whatsoever.”

He added: “Tony and I intend meeting in the not too distant future and if we can arrange it we hope to meet with Alan when he visits England later in the year.”

Anyone who has memories of The A-Rabs’s gigs or who might know where the other band members may be can contact either Mr Butler-Lee on 01442 823877 or Mr Beard on 01332 850471 or by email on aha1987@tiscali.co.uk
