What was described as a great day for guiding saw the opening of a county Guide Centre at Ellesborough.
Twelve months earlier an appeal was launched by guides in Buckinghamshire to raise £100,000 to buy the freehold of their centre.
The purchase was celebrated at an official opening by Mrs Geoffrey Wills, county commissioner at the time the centre was acquired for guide use 13 years previously.
The centre was purchased from the Chequers Estate and provided four large rooms, a kitchen, toilets and two acres of land.

The fire broke out in the roof of the 19th century building. Firefighters spent hours tackling the blaze after the alarm was raised by a porter.
A full length portrait of the Queen on loan from the Hampden Estate was among valuable paintings saved.
