IN this week's The Way We Were, we turn the clock back five years to 2004 to see what was making the headlines in Aylesbury Vale.
Regulars in an Aylesbury pub were preparing to launch a campaign after magistrates refused to grant an application for longer opening hours to celebrate St George's Day.

Elaine Cooley, landlady of the Dairy Maid on Dunsham Lane, had her application turned down as magistrates considered that the day wasn't special enough to grant an extension to the pub's opening hours.

As many as 300 regulars lent their support to the campaign.
Elsewhere, skateboarders in Aylesbury were getting to grips with half pipes and grind rails when a new skate park opened in the town's Vale Park before Easter.

Potential users were asked what new features they wanted to see in Aylesbury. When a skate park emerged as the most popular choice, a consultation group of young skaters in the area was set up. The group played a role in the design and layout of the new park.

Although there was another healthy attendance at the traditional Easter Kimble races, a question mark was hanging over the future of the event which dates back to 1912.
The uncertainty was because of the ban on fox hunting, which came into force in February 2005.

Meanwhile, community leaders in Aylesbury joined forces with The Bucks Herald to oppose plans to close four post offices in and around the town.

Aylesbury MP David Lidington, town mayor Ray Ghent, former mayors Raj Khan and Freda Roberts and AVDC chairman Hedley Cadd agreed a public display of dissatisfaction was necessary.

Branches at Penn Road, Somerville Way, Buckingham Road and Tring Road all faced the threat of closure.
