Work starts on new Aylesbury public toilets
New public toilets should be open in Aylesbury town centre in just a few weeks.
Work started on the new facilities in Anchor Lane car park this week. It's hoped that the toilets will be open by mid-August.
The new block will include ladies and gents toilets and disabled and baby changing facilities. Opening hours are yet to be finalised.
AVDC agreed to spend 150,000 on new toilets in the Vale after receiving a 1.1 million grant from the government's local authorities business growth incentive scheme. Toilet provision has been identified as an area needing investment as the council aims to make Aylesbury town centre as user friendly as possible.
Councillor Michael Edmonds, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: "I am very pleased that we have been able to provide these new public toilets in Aylesbury town centre. We know there has been large public demand for more toilets in Aylesbury since the closure of the old facilities in Kingsbury. Now that work has started it will not be long before the new toilets are open. This is really good news, both for local people and visitors to the town."
There will be a limited amount of parking available in the Anchor Lane car park during the works, but the council will endeavour to maintain as many spaces as possible.
Alternative on-street Blue Badge parking may be found in Britannia Street and Anchor Lane itself with additional off-street parking to be found in Upper Hundreds multi-storey car park or the Civic Centre car park.
