Woolworths will be a considerable loss to the High Street
THAT'S the view of today's correspondent.
The possible closure of Woolworths to the High Street will be a considerable loss to those many shoppers who have grown up and 'cut their buying teeth' in Woollies.
More than any other retail outlet it is the 'Store of The People ' Shoppers who would think twice about going into the more expensive or upmarket establishments feel at home in Woolworths; which often operates in the same prime locations. It shouldn't be forgotten however that they suit all pockets. Quite often in Friars Square I have seen Woolworths buzzing, when many other larger outlets were quiet. Our great cross section of society, push chairs and all can be found there.
Some of the staff have been with the company over 30 years. They, both young and old, are friendly, and professional in their goal of customer satisfaction. They must be very worried about what the future holds for them.
Whatever the failure of many institutions in Woolworth's difficulties; i.e. top management, the banking crisis, the inability of politicians to forcast the debt bubble; they at least can hold their heads high, having done a good job We must give them support.
