‘Wonderfully joyful’ cyclist killed in crash was training for charity event

Mairead Mary Boucherat, of Hempstead Road in Kings Langley, died after being involved in a collision with a black Nissan Qashqai on Saturday, May 30.

The incident happened at around 10.30am on Tring Hill, Aston Clinton, near to the junction of Upper Icknield Way.

Mrs Boucherat died at the scene.

In a statement released by police, her family said: “Mairead was cycling with her husband in final preparation for the London to Brighton Cycle in aid of the British Heart Foundation, which they intended to complete together on the 21st June.

“A wonderfully joyful mother, wife, auntie, daughter, friend and soul mate.

“Mairead was also a teacher and special needs base leader who had worked selflessly in Hertfordshire primary schools for over 25 years.

“She is hugely missed by her loving husband and son, dear parents, wider family and by her many friends and colleagues, all of whom are devastated by their sudden loss.

“Thank you to so many for your kind tributes and support and for the additional fundraising in honour of Mairead by George and the Tring Velo Club.

“Do please continue to support, comment and contribute, this has been a great help to us.

“Mairead was forever a delight; always smiling, energetic and fun loving and with a twinkle that glimpsed her determination, quick wit, keen intelligence and great faith.

“She truly brightened the lives of everyone she met, no matter how briefly.

“In God’s hands now and with her lovely sister Grainnie, Mairead’s energy, love and spirit will forever be our guide and inspiration as we tackle the future together.

“Lent to us for far too short a time. Adieu mon petit amour, vous revoir bientôt xxxxx. Marc and Paul Boucherat.”

An inquest into Mrs Boucherat’s death was opened on Thursday, June 4.

Police have launched an investigation into the collision and anyone with information is urged to contact PC Colin Riley from Amersham roads policing on non-emergency number 101.
