We must fight to save the Civic
Our correspondent says demolishing the Civic Centre and replacing it with shops would be a big mistake.
I have lived in Aylesbury for most of my life and have had the pleasure of attending many functions at the Civic Centre.
It was not until I read the article in last weeks Herald regarding the disappearance of a venue big enough to hold events that Aylesbury has been hosting over the years, that I realised what we are losing.
I am glad that Councillor Maria Butler has raised this issue and I do hope that she will be joined by many others in the plight to either keep the Civic Centre or a purpose built building to be provided for Aylesbury to hold large events.
The thought of another shopping centre built in the place of the Civic Centre does not make any sense when shops are closing on a weekly basis in the town, may be another tier on top of the Friars Square Shopping Centre would be the best idea.
I think it is time to ask the local people of Aylesbury what they really want, it is those who live and work here that would give reasonable views on what works and what does not.
My message to Councillor Maria Butler is, I and many others are with you on this and I think the Bucks Herald should run a poll and lets see what the people of Aylesbury want.
The last thing I should say is that this is not the Ambassador Groups fault that the Theatre was not purpose built to replace the Civic and to be honest it is a theatre after all, but as per usual the powers that be have not thought further than the end of their noses!
